It is considered that sounds above 85dB HL are harmful to hearing; this level of noise is associated with traffic noise which we are all exposed to daily. Loud music and heavy machinery are considered to be heard at around 100dB HL or louder!!

Any cause of dampness in the ear canals can lead to infection of this kind- particularly when swimming/ bathing in unclean water. Shampoo’s and hair dyes can also cause this type of irritation.
