Audiologist and Registered Hearing Aid Dispenser

Meet Our Audiologist:

Sarah Hardie is founder and director of Hardie Hearing Ltd, she is our fully qualified and highly experienced Audiologist, Ear Care Specialist and Hearing Aid Dispenser.

About Me:

I qualified from the University of Leeds with a BSc (Hons) Audiology and went on to pass further M-level certificates at the University of Manchester over the following few years. I gained my certificate of clinical competence in micro-suction in 2015 and have been successfully been using this technique for wax removal in both the NHS and Independent sector ever since. I worked within the NHS for 15 years and became a Specialist Audiologist with a keen interest in the diagnosis and rehabilitation of newborns and infants with hearing loss in more recent years. I left my NHS role in 2021 to allow me to focus on my independent work and to increase my involvement in research.

I have recently been the research assistant on a very exciting project with Manchester University where I am working among some of the most highly respected professors and researchers in the field of Audiology; this has been a fantastic opportunity for me!

I absolutely love my job and I am very proud of the service that I run. I work hard to keep my professional standards high to make sure that I offer my clients the best possible advice and support that I can.

I really enjoy getting to know my clients and I love that I can make such a positive influence on the lives of my clients and their families.

How often should I have my hearing tested?

Typically hearing deteriorates with age and it is recommended that anyone over the age of 50 should have regular hearing tests every 18 months.

Will wearing a hearing aid make my hearing worse?

No. In fact there is evidence to support the idea that wearing hearing aid will actually stimulate the hearing system enough to slow down the rate of hearing deterioration.

My hearing aid whistles all the time, what does this mean?

This is ‘normally’ a sign that there is something wrong. Either; the hearing aid fitting is inappropriate, or, there is wax blocking the ear obstructing the flow of sound.

I would like to get my ears cleared of wax- should I use olive oil first?

Yes. Use olive oil once a day for few days before your appointment. This will not clear the wax but it will soften it – this will ensure that the procedure is quick and comfortable.
